Aesthetics of Brick Masonry Presented by Brian E. Trimble, PE, LEED AP, Brick Industry Association Arches, corbelling, quoins, banding – how do you achieve all these details with brick? We’ll show you how and also tell you ways to accomplish many design features using interesting brick shapes. Examples of buildings with unique brick details using different sized brick, different bond patterns and various mortar joints are showcased. Guidance on keeping costs down with special details while maximizing the impact will be discussed. We end with a special look at brick sculpture and some award-winning buildings that incorporate interesting, new ideas using brick. At the end of this program, participants will: Learn how to detail brick corbelling from a structural standpoint as well as from an aesthetic viewpoint. Learn how to use brick sizes and bond patterns to change the appearance of the wall, often with little additional cost. Learn how to specify brick sculpture properly and what it takes to make it turn out problem free. Learn how to use special brick shapes in various positions on a building that will increase the durability and decrease costly field-built details.
