Through-Wall Flashing: Compatibility, Longevity and Performance Presented by Craig Wetmore, CSI, CDT President of York Flashings, ABAA Director The masonry cavity wall has changed dramatically with the inclusion of air barriers and continuous insulation, and the critical interface between these items and the wall's flashing system. Because flashing is installed behind the masonry veneer, it is important that it will perform for the expected life of the building. This program will review different types of masonry flashings and discuss the flashing's compatibility with other wall components. Topics to be covered: The compatibility of each type of flashing with air barriers and continuous insulation. Longevity expectations of each type of flashing and their respective life cycle costs. Challenges faced during installation of each flashing material, and how to overcome them. The benefits and limitations of the various types of flashing materials. The importance of masonry accessories in order to achieve a system that performs as intended.
