This two-day course is the third specific exterior wall course that builds upon the fundamentals presented in Exterior Walls Technology and Science. The purpose of the course is to provide an in-depth understanding of exterior concrete wall systems that serve as part of the building envelope system. This course will cover properties of concrete materials that affect their use in building envelopes, applicable codes and standards, design and construction requirements, and evaluating, repairing, and maintaining exterior concrete walls. Case studies will also be presented for exterior wall repair projects.

This in-depth course is recommended for those that have taken Exterior Walls Technology and Science, and want to further expand on their knowledge of exterior wall systems. Exterior Concrete Wall Systems will also serve as a good review course for those interested in taking the Registered Exterior Wall Consultant exam.

Objectives:

  • To understand properties of concrete materials and how they impact concrete’s use in building envelope systems.
  • To understand provisions of codes and standards that govern design and repair of exterior concrete wall systems.
  • To understand various exterior concrete wall assemblies and how they control thermal and moisture movement.
  • To understand design and construction requirements for concrete walls serving as part of the building envelope system.
  • To understand typical deterioration mechanisms, and tools and techniques used to evaluate problems in exterior concrete walls.
  • To understand methods for repairing and maintaining exterior concrete walls.
