Substrate Preparation for Ceramic Tile

non-BEC
February 03, 2014
11:30 am - 2:00 pm
Location
International Masonry Institute, 2140 W. Corporate Dr., Addison, IL 60101
Posted by Scott Conwell

This program provides an in-depth introduction to the various methods of surface preparation required for installing self-leveling underlayment materials for concrete floors to receive ceramic tile. The program begins with a discussion of concrete floor flatness and levelness standards, the disparity between Division 3 and Division 9 requirements, and how to mitigate conflicts in those requirements. Participants will then learn industry standards for installation of self-leveling underlayments as part of a system prior to subsequent installations of ceramic tile. Participants will be exposed to the correct process of inspecting a substrate to determine required preparation or repairs, moisture vapor emission analysis and testing methods, and methods of mechanical preparation prior to the installation of an underlayment. Finally, participants learn about the tile industry’s new ACT (Advanced Certifications for Tile Installers) requirements for substrate preparation, and they will view an interactive hands-on demonstration of a cementitious floor patch.
